A delivery truck overturned and collided with another car Tuesday afternoon at Lake Nacimiento dam, injuring one driver.

The crash happened shortly before 4:30 p.m. Fire crews and witnesses were tending to the delivery truck driver. An ambulance took the man to the hospital.

Traffic across the dam was blocked in both directions. The road was closed at Heritage Loop & Nacimiento Lake Drive and also at Interlake & Nacimiento Lake Drive until around 7:30, when the road was reopened to alternating traffic. All lanes were reopened by 8 p.m.

Witness Margie Vock tells KSBY News the truck fell on its side on the south corner and hit an oncoming Mercedes sedan that was heading southbound. She and others got out of their cars to help the injured driver.

"He had contusions on his arm and we put compresses to keep them clean and an emergency blanket on him so he wouldn't go into shock. Kept him talking to keep him conscious," said Vock.

CHP said the driver was traveling faster than the 20 mph speed limit and officers believe his high rate of speed caused the crash.

Vock said she believes the collision with the car may have stopped the truck from going over the side of the dam.

Emergency responders initially requested a helicopter to help the injured man but there did not appear to be a safe enough place to land nearby.

Engine 33 from Heritage Ranch was first on the scene, witnesses say, and no one else was reported to be hurt in the crash.

The truck was carrying electrical equipment for stage lighting for the upcoming Dirtybird Campout music festival at San Antonio Campground in Bradley.
