Back in March, we told you about a couple going above and beyond to help a local woman who is in need of a kidney transplant.

Kevin Duffy and his wife Samantha began their hike in April on the Pacific Crest Trail from Mexico to Canada to raise awareness and funds for their friend, Erin Marin of Los Osos. Marin has an unusual genetic disorder leaving her with the need of a new kidney.

Nearly 2,700 miles later, the couple is back. They finished the hike in five months.

"I think it's probably about 95 percent mental and 5 percent physical. I mean you need to have the physical ability to hike an average of 25 miles a day, however mentally you need some toughness, some tenacity," said Kevin Duffy. "When we were at low points, or facing trials and tribulations, or challenges or adversities from Mother Nature, Erin and her struggle for life with her genetic kidney disease would keep us going and keep us inspired."

The couple is still raising awareness and money. Click here for more information.
