Cuesta College students learn about history behind the piñata

Posted: Updated:

There are different activities at Cuesta College during Hispanic Heritage Month.

Students participated in the Piñata Bash Wednesday. They learned about the origin of piñatas and learned how to make the papier-mâché craft.

"The piñata actually has a religious tradition behind it," said Ali Phelps, activities assistant at the college. "The seven points represent the seven deadly sins. So when you break a piñata, it's symbolic of you banishing evil from your life."

Hispanic Heritage Month started September 1 and runs until October 15.
