Posted: Updated:

Officials have released the name of the man whose body was found last week in the Santa Ynez Riverbed in Lompoc.

He has been identified as, Darrell Anthony Whorten, a 34-year-old transient out of Lompoc, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office.

Lompoc police said someone reported finding his body in the early-morning hours of September 26.

Officers searched the area near the North H Street bridge and reportedly located a homeless camp. A person at the camp was able to direct them to the body.

The sheriff's office says Whorten's cause and manner of death are pending toxicology results; however, foul play is not suspected.
