UPDATE: Prescribed burn on Santa Maria Mesa Road postponed indefinitely

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE 8:00 a.m. 10/11/17

The Santa Barbara County Fire Department tweeted Wednesday morning that it is postponing a prescribed burn planned for this week indefinitely.

Fire officials say they called it off due to predicted fire weather conditions and lack of available resources to conduct the burn safely.

The Santa Barbara County Fire Department is tentatively planning a prescribed burn this week along Santa Maria Mesa Road east of Sisquoc.

The burn is scheduled to take place on Wednesday or Thursday between 9:30 a.m. and 6 p.m., but depending on the weather, could happen any day through October 31.

Approximately 209 acres of grass and brush will be burned. The goal is to reduce the risk of wildfire.

It will only take place if weather conditions are favorable to direct smoke away from the surrounding communities.
