The man who caused a deadly crash near Creston back in July was sentenced on Wednesday to five years in state prison.
In September, Eusebio Ruiz-Luis of Shandon pleaded no contest to vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under the influence causing death, and driving with a blood-alcohol level above .08%. He also had a prior DUI conviction.
On July 23, the California Highway Patrol said Ruiz-Luis crashed his car at Highway 41 and Creston Road when he tried to make a turn and lost control. The vehicle flipped several times and Ruiz-Luis' passenger, 28-year-old Artemio Pacheco, was killed.
Evacuation warning and orders were in effect for Santa Barbara County Monday morning from portions of Highway 192 east to the county line.
CAL FIRE announced Monday morning that the Thomas Fire burning in Santa Barbara and Ventura counties grew just 500 acres overnight, bringing the total acres burned to 230,500.
More information is being released about what officers say led to fiery crash outside of Arroyo Grande Sunday that left a driver dead.
