Driver in deadly DUI crash near Creston sentenced

Posted: Updated:

The man who caused a deadly crash near Creston back in July was sentenced on Wednesday to five years in state prison.

In September, Eusebio Ruiz-Luis of Shandon pleaded no contest to vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under the influence causing death, and driving with a blood-alcohol level above .08%. He also had a prior DUI conviction.

On July 23, the California Highway Patrol said Ruiz-Luis crashed his car at Highway 41 and Creston Road when he tried to make a turn and lost control. The vehicle flipped several times and Ruiz-Luis' passenger, 28-year-old Artemio Pacheco, was killed.
