Atascadero opens up PAC 5 league play at Righetti

Posted: Updated:

The Atascadero football program begins league play on Friday night as they travel to PAC 5 foe, Righetti.

The Greyhounds are coming off a bye week with a 2-4 overall record. That includes a big win over Pioneer Valley just a few weeks ago, 21-7. The Greyhounds have struggled some on the offensive side of the ball this season, averaging just over 12 points per game through six games.

Atascadero knows it has to put up points against a tough Righetti Warriors defense on Friday.

"I think it's just be more efficient," Atascadero head coach Vic Cooper said. "Lots of things can kill a drive in that situation, it could be the defense playing well, or it ends up being one guy misses a block or not finishing a block, one guy going the wrong way, a fumble, snap, those kind of things have been hurting us. We spent a lot of time trying to clean that up."

"It's very important because our offense hasn't been greatest getting in it and it kind falls down to defense, and the defense is constantly out on the field," Atascadero senior Zach Davis added. "We get no motivation from the offense just to keep up with momentum and it hasn't worked out all the greatest."

Atascadero and Righetti will kick off this Friday night at 7:00 p.m. at Righetti High School.
