The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office says a 16-year-old girl who went missing from Orcutt last month was found Wednesday in Washington state along with her 18-year-old boyfriend, who was taken into custody.

Destiny Navarette was reported missing on Sept. 19. She was last seen the previous morning at Righetti High School.

Sheriff's officials believed Navarette was with her boyfriend, 18-year-old Miguel Perez De La Cruz of Guadalupe.

The sheriff's office says the two were found Wednesday afternoon in Othello, Washington, where one of Perez's relatives lived.

Perez had a warrant out for his arrest for a probation violation and a criminal protective order prohibiting him from contacting Navarette. Perez was taken into custody and booked into jail in Washington on suspicion of violation of his restraining order. according to the sheriff's office.

Navarette was found safe and is in the process of being returned to her family, sheriff's officials said, adding its detectives and the Othello Police Department had been working together to find Perez and Navarette.

Investigators had said previously that Navarette ran away from home with Perez and there was no indication she was held against her will.
