Local pumpkin patches to check out this fall

The Central Coast is vibrant in autumn with splashes of orange all over our area. More than a dozen pumpkin patches are scattered from Santa Barbara to San Miguel, all with something unique to offer visitors. 

1. Lane Farms: 308 Walnut Ln, Santa Barbara. Visit Scarecrow Joe and Larry the donkey. Visitors up for a challenge can try to find their way through the corn maze. 

2. The Solvang Farmer Pumpkin Patch: 951-989 Alamo Pintado Road, Solvang. This patch also has a corn maze worth checking out. Open every day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

3. Summerset Farm: 3450 Baseline Ave, Santa Ynez. Pick up some fresh produce along with your pumpkins here. Open every day 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The patch closes early on Sundays at 3 p.m.

4. Zeller's Family Pumpkin Patch: 2050 Sweeney Road, Lompoc. You'll find this family pumpkin patch across from River Park and behind the county yard. It's open on weekends from 9 a.m. to sunset and weekdays 4 p.m. to sunset. 

5. Nipomo Pumpkin Patch: 662 Eucalyptus Rd, Nipomo. You can get a giant pumpkin for a giant deal here - just $20 for the big ones! Open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. 

6. The Pumpkin Patch: 2050 Biddle Ranch Road, Edna Valley. The Lewis family has been farming the land here since the 1800s. Come whenever you'd like. The patch entrusts visitors with an honor system for pumpkin payment. 

7. Branch Elementary School Pumpkin Patch: 3031 Lopez Dr, Arroyo Grande. Rows of jack-o-lantern pumpkins fill a field near Talley Vineyards. The pumpkins are donated by Talley Vineyards and Santa Maria Seeds. Sales benefit the elementary school. Open weekends 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

8. Avila Valley Barn: 560 Avila Beach Dr, San Luis Obispo. This premier pumpkin patch is always bustling with fans of the festive fall setting. Pick a pumpkin, visit farm animals, try a homemade pie and take a picture in front of the famously photogenic wall of pumpkins. Open daily 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

9. SLO Creek Farms: 6455 Monte Rd, San Luis Obispo. For a super homegrown feel, visit this cute u-pick farm off Highway 101. You'll want to pick apples along with your pumpkins. Open daily 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

10. Brookshire Farms: 4747 Los Osos Valley Rd, San Luis Obispo/Los Osos. This patch offers a lot more than just pumpkins. Play on bounce houses, make your way through the maze, visit farm animals and learn a little about the farmer lifestyle. Open weekdays 12-6 p.m. and weekends 10 a.m. to 6 p.m

11. Jack Creek Farms: 5000 CA-46, Templeton. It's a pumpkin palooza at this family farm on Hwy 46 in Templeton. Visit the goats and barn cats as you select your squash. Also, be sure to treat yourself to an apple cider slushie from the farm store. Open Thursday-Monday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

12. Chesebrough Farm:  790 Moss Ln, Templeton. For an old-fashioned farm stand feel, visit this charming pumpkin patch with a wide variety of pumpkins. The owners take orders a year in advance for custom pumpkin etchings - ask about it when you go! Open daily 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

13. River K Pumpkin Patch: 5670 N River Rd, Paso Robles. This family farm has been opening its pumpkin patch and corn maze for over 20 years in North County. Remember to bring cash or checks. Open daily 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. 

14. Granny's Garden at San Marcos Ranch: 775 San Marcos Rd, San Miguel.  This locals' favorite patch is taking a break this year but don't forget about Granny because she and the team at the ranch plan to be back up and running for the 2018 season.
