Firefighters use Burn Relay to teach kids about fire prevention

Posted: Updated:

The 28th annual Burn Relay on Thursday taught local children essential tips on how to prevent fires along with what to do when a fire breaks out.

Groups of local firefighters showed hundreds of kids how to stop, drop and roll, among other helpful ideas on how to survive a fire.

Fifteen schools across San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties participated in the event, which ended at the San Luis Obispo Farmer's Market.

The relay raises money for the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation, which is dedicated to burn prevention through education.

This year's relay brought in more than $14,000, which will pay for young burn survivors to attend week-long summer camps.
