CAL FIRE: Roadside fires on Interlake Road sparked by broken trailer hitch

Posted: Updated:

Firefighters say they've stopped the forward progress of three fires that broke out in the area of Interlake and Lynch Canyon roads on Friday.

The fires were first reported at about 12:15 p.m. The area is between San Antonio and Nacimiento lakes near the old Bee Rock store.

The fires burned about 50 acres, and as of 3:45 p.m., were 30 percent contained. Crews were expected to remain at the scene through the night and into Saturday.

CAL FIRE said the fires were burning in grass approximately 1/2 mile away from each other.

The cause has reportedly been determined to be a broken trailer hitch.

A soft road closure was in place at Interlake and Bee Rock roads.
