Allan Hancock hosts public event to introduce basketball teams

Posted: Updated:

Allan Hancock College men's and women's basketball teams welcomed fans to see this year's teams at its annual 'Meet the Bulldogs' event.

The free event featured intra-squad scrimmages for both teams as well as three-point shooting and dunk contests. While the event provided entertainment for fans, it also gave them a chance to meet the new Bulldog players for the first time.

"We have a lot of new faces, but we want to introduce the new faces to our community and vice versa, introduce our community to the new faces," head coach Tyson Aye said.

The day was not only fun for fans, but for the players as well. Sophomore guard Shane Carney was happy to participate after missing out on the chance last year.

"I'm most looking forward to just entertaining the community," Carney said, "I'm glad that a lot of people were able to come out and we were just able to have fun."

The men's team has high expectations after finishing fourth in the conference last year, and are looking for its first playoff appearance in four years.

The women's team, on the other hand, are coming off a historically great season, reaching the playoffs for the first time in almost 20 years. Their season begins November 3 on the road against L.A. Southwest.

The men will tip-off on the same day to start the Rabobank Tournament at Cuesta College, running from November 3-5.
