'Empty Bowls' in Santa Maria is a fundraising event hosted by the Santa Barbara County Foodbank.

Wednesday, October 25th, will mark the 16th year of the event.

Participants will give a $25 ticket donation, choose a handmade bowl and enjoy a soup and bread meal.

The meal's purpose is to feed the hungry in the community.

"For every dollar that is raised, we can provide eight meals. It really does go a long way," said Darlene Chavez, development coordinator.

Organizers say the event raises about $40,000.

Doors open at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
