Rocket carrying imaging satellite set to launch from Vandenberg AFB

Posted: Updated:

An Orbital ATK Minotaur-C rocket is scheduled to launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base next week.

If all goes as planned, the rocket will lift off at 2:37 p.m. Tuesday, October 31.

It will be carrying a Skybox imaging satellite.

"Our unique geographic location makes Vandenberg an ideal place to launch commercial imaging satellites," said Col. Greg Wood, 30th Space Wing vice commander, in a press release. "We are excited to partner with Orbital ATK to make this mission a reality."

The rocket will be launching from Space Launch Complex 576-E. Due to the location of the launch site, the Hawk's Nest viewing area on Highway 1 south of the base's main gate will not be open.
