Empty Bowls luncheon raises money for Foodbank of Santa Barbara County

Posted: Updated:

Hundreds of people turned out for the annual Empty Bowls luncheon in Santa Maria on Wednesday.

The luncheon is a fundraiser for the Foodbank of Santa Barbara County.

For a $25 donation, attendees selected a hand-made ceramic bowl and were served a meal of soup and bread. The bowls were created by ceramics students at Allan Hancock College and several local restaurants provided gourmet soups for the event.

"It's an opportunity to have some of the most delicious soup that's there in town and have a beautiful bowl for them to really help their friends and neighbors who need help," said Erik Talkin, Foodbank Santa Barbara County CEO.

Local community leaders and KSBY news anchors and reporters Christina Favuzzi, Scott Daniels, Jessica Vo, and Megan Abundis helped serve the lunches.
