Safe & Secure: "Anna's House" is helping families torn apart by drug abuse

Posted: Updated:

In tonight's Safe and Secure, we're introducing you to a one-of-a-kind home for mothers and their children after, in most cases, drug abuse has torn their families apart.

The organization "Restorative Partners" is offering them transitional housing in a beautiful and safe environment called Anna's House.

It's tucked away in the hills of Paso Robles where women and their children learn to be a family.

"I too have been impacted by crime and I've made a way and a new life for myself and my little girl," Sara Bulgin said who is the house manager of Anna's House. She said it's her way of giving back after she herself was  helped out of a life of drug addiction. "It takes you to dark places and it takes your hope away and places like this give you that hope back."

Here at Anna's House, mothers, after they've gone through treatment, are reunited with their children in a safe environment with areas to play, read, and bond. There's also help finding jobs and staying sober.

"What they learn here is about what it's like to be in recovery, be a mom and having to work, we support that," Program Coordinator Julia Collins said.

The community supports them, as well.

Each of the five rooms was donated and decorated by a family who lost a child. And the down payment for the custom-built home on an acre of land was also donated to Restorative Partners on the premise it'll be paid back.

The sprawling home represents what could be for these women in the future.

"You deserve this and if you work really, really hard you can have this. This is within your reach," Reentry Program and Services Director at Restorative Partners Dona Wilson said.

Restorative Partners is always in need of donations and volunteers to serve as mentors and sponsors.
