Toys for Tots drive kicks off in Santa Maria

Posted: Updated:

The annual Toys for Tots drive kicked off Wednesday morning in front of City Hall in Santa Maria.

Coastal Valleys Detachment Marine Corps League 1340 is asking for donations of $15 unwrapped toys. There are several donation locations throughout Santa Maria, Orcutt and Guadalupe.

"We're hoping that this toy just puts a little more spirit back in, and again, give those needy families hope that you know there is Santa Claus, and that come Christmas Eve, they will have that toy underneath the tree," said Daniel Cadena Jr., Toys for Tots coordinator for Santa Maria, Orcutt and Guadalupe.

There are an estimated 1,500 needy families in the area, which adds up to about 4,500 kids in need.

You can register to receive the toys at the Community Action Commission at 201 W. Chapel St. in Santa Maria on Nov. 8 and Nov. 18. If you can't make it on those dates, you can call 211 to find out when registration times and dates are available.
