Dentists buy kids' Halloween candy to send to troops

Posted: Updated:

If you're wishing your kids didn't have so much candy after Halloween Tuesday, there are some dentists in town who will take it off your hands.

Candy was pouring into the Santa Maria Pediatric Dental Group on East Betteravia Road on Wednesday.

The office is paying $1 per pound, and you can bring in up to 5 pounds of excess sweets.

"The kids that I've talked to, they ate a lot. They got as much as they needed and they are happy, especially when well, No. 1, they got some money for it, but they know it's for a good cause," said dentist Dr. David Cottrell.

It's the sixth year the office has collected candy for Operation Gratitude. They candy is taken to Ventura, where it's then sent overseas.

You can drop off candy through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
