Vandenberg AFB rocket launch delayed

Posted: Updated:

The launch of a Delta II rocket from Vandenberg Air Force Base has been delayed in order to replace a faulty battery on the rocket booster.

The launch was originally planned for the early morning of Friday, Nov. 10. Base officials say the launch will now take place no earlier than Tuesday, Nov. 14.

The rocket will be carrying a Joint Polar Satellite System-1 polar-orbiting environmental satellite for NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The satellite will be used for severe weather prediction and environmental monitoring.
