SLO County assistant district attorney retiring

Posted: Updated:

After a 46-year public safety career, the assistant district attorney for San Luis Obispo County is retiring.

Lee V. Cunningham will step down at the end of the year after 32 years with the District Attorney's Office.

"The way I see it, we have the best jobs, in the best place, in the world," Cunningham said in a staff memo. "If I didn't believe in that, I would not have stayed 32 1/2 years."

Cunningham began his career as a correctional officer before becoming a police officer and then attending law school, according to a press release from the District Attorney's Office.

As assistant district attorney, he prosecuted nearly every type of case the office handles.

The District's Attorney's Office did not say who would replace Cunningham.
