Lompoc City Council looks at draft maps that will divide the city into four districts

Posted: Updated:

The Lompoc City Council on Tuesday took a look at various draft maps for district-based elections.

The maps divide the city into four districts. Beginning in 2018, council members will be elected from those districts.

District elections will replace the current at-large system. The city is changing to district elections to avoid the threat of a lawsuit.

At Tuesday's meeting, nine drafts were reviewed, seven of which were submitted by the public.

Those drafts maps can be reviewed and compared online here

The city wants to hear from community members at its next public hearing scheduled for November 21.
