Mission Prep alum Patrick Laird is having a breakout year at Cal, named Burlsworth Trophy semifinalist

Cal running back Patrick Laird is having a breakout season as a 2017 redshirt junior and was named one of ten national semifinalists for the Burlsworth Trophy. 

The award is given to the nation's most outstanding football player who began his career as a walk-on.

Laird is leading the team in all rushing categories with career highs of 139 carries for 796 yards rushing and seven touchdowns.

Laird also has the two biggest rushing games by a Cal player since 2009 during his junior campaign including career highs of 33 rushes and 214 yards rushing with one touchdown against Oregon State last Saturday.

Voting for the semifinalist round will end on November 12th at 10 p.m.
