Several RVs caught fire in San Luis Obispo on Saturday morning.

It happened behind a home on the 4600 block of Thread Lane just before 10:30 a.m. The smoke from the fire could be seen for miles. Some KSBY viewers reported seeing it all the way from Los Osos and Morro Bay.

"I just heard the dogs barking and I looked out my back door and I just saw smoke coming from the back of the house," said Sheri Kaba who lives just two houses away from where the blaze started.

"It was just frightening, scary," Kaba said.

She called 911. The flames, she said, shot up about 25 feet in the air.

"Got on scene and found a single wide RV type trailer fully involved extending into other RVs around it," said Chris Elms, CAL FIRE SLO Public Information Officer.

CAL FIRE says at least two RVs were burned along with a bunch of stuff on the property.

"The heat was so warm," Kaba continued. "It was intense. I guess there was just anxiety. A rush of knowing do we need to start moving our stuff out?"

Before fire crews arrived, Kaba and her family started hosing down their roof.

"And the wind was moving in this direction and I didn't want to take a chance of it jumping and I thought what is the first thing we can do to help save us?"

Firefighters could see the black plume of smoke while leaving their station next to the airport.

"Then when I heard the engines come in, it was kind of relief, it was peace," Kaba added.

Crews were able to knock it down quickly. They spent several hours there making sure there were no hot spots before they left. The fire did not spread to nearby homes or businesses.

CAL FIRE says no one was in the RVs at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
