Lots of local families were excited to see a brand new playground installed at Sinsheimer Park in San Luis Obispo but something happened there that the city was not excited to see.

One of the playground upgrades is an artificial grass hill that you slide down using pieces of cardboard. The city does not provide that cardboard. People have been bringing boxes and ripping them up to use for the slide.

Park patrons who brought cardboard to use also left plenty of it behind for other people to use. The problem is nobody picked it up, creating a soggy mess the morning after the playground's unofficial opening on Saturday.

The city's Parks and Recreation Department said via Instagram on Monday that staff living nearby went to clean up the discarded cardboard with their kids. They organized the nice pieces for further use and took the soggy pieces to the dump. The city wants everyone else to do the same in order to help keep the new playground clean while the city works on a solution.

The official dedication of the Sinsheimer Park Playground is set for this Thursday at 1 p.m.
