Teen killed in Orcutt hit-and-run identified

Posted: Updated:

The California Highway Patrol has identified the teen pedestrian killed in a hit-and-run in Orcutt over the weekend as Jennifer Ayala Benitez.

Officers say the 18-year-old was crossing Highway 135 at Goodwin Road against a red light when she was hit by a vehicle and thrown approximately 150 feet. She died at the scene.

CHP could not confirm where she was most recently living.

The vehicle that hit her took off and was described by witnesses as possibly a Ford Explorer, according to CHP.

Officers conducted interviews Monday but by Tuesday, no arrests had been made in the case. However, CHP did say an SUV was being examined.

Anyone with information about the collision or who sees a vehicle with front-end damage consistent with this type of crash is asked to call CHP dispatch at (805) 593-3333.
