Florida woman finds spiny-tailed iguana in her toilet

Posted: Updated:

A Florida woman is recovering from the shock of a lifetime after finding an iguana in her toilet.

Dani Craven was cleaning her toilet when she encountered the spiny-tailed iguana.

"All I could see were scaly, like a scaly tail. I couldn't tell if it was an alligator or a lizard. I didn't know," she said.

When she realized it was a lizard, she was terrified. She placed bricks on top of the toilet to make sure it would not escape.

Her husband was not going to arrive home until late, so she put out a plea for help on Facebook.

Her friend, Shannon Walker, was happy to oblige, thinking to herself, "it's just a lizard."

Walker was shocked to see the size of the iguana.

It wasn't easy, but she was eventually able to catch it and turned it over to wildlife expert Justin Matthews.

He believes it was likely someone's pet that was flushed away.

"I was thinking, 'oh man, at least they looked before they sat down,'" he said.

Craven's advice for others: "Don't flush your pets down the toilet!"

Daytime highs for the interior valleys are backing off from triple digits on Monday. Temperatures for California Valley and Shandon will get close to 100 degrees on Monday, but right now daytime highs will range from the upper 80s to upper 90s. High pressure over the area is moving to the east, which is allowing for those interior valleys to cool down this week. However, with extremely dry live and dead fuel paired with gusty onshore winds, fire weather danger remains to be of concern...
