Santa Maria prepares for CIF Championship against Big Bear

Posted: Updated:

In just two nights, the Santa Maria high school football team will kick off the CIF Division 12 Championship game on their home field against Big Bear.

It's a rare occurrence, but this will be the third of four playoff games hosted by the Saints. In the first  two games, Santa Maria averaged 49 points and senior quarterback Blake Truhitte combined for 13 touchdowns.

The Saints' focus all season has been to win a CIF title, and now they're just 48 minutes from accomplishing that goal versus Big Bear Saturday night.

"I know this is kind of cliche, but we're just focusing on the next opponent," head coach Dan Ellington said. "That's kind of been our attitude all year. We just want to focus on our job and give us a chance to win this football game."

"You know, guys are just trying to stay focused," senior quarterback Blake Truhitte added. "There's a lot of distraction this week, but we need to go out there and do our job, play football like we've been doing, and execute our game plan."

"All year we've talked about how we want to make CIF, we want to be league champs, we want to go this far, and it's finally here. It's like a dream come true," senior running back Robert Ruiz said.

Santa Maria and Big Bear will play at Santa Maria High School on Saturday night with the game starting at 7:45 p.m.
