Lompoc High students to wear the color of their choice at graduation

Posted: Updated:

After further discussion, Lompoc High School has decided to allow graduating seniors the opportunity to choose the cap and gown color of their choice.

Originally, the principal of the high school sent an email to parents explaining that this upcoming spring, everyone would wear only blue.

Many parents and students disagreed with the decision and fought for a reversal. Traditionally, boys have worn blue and girls have worn white at graduation.

On Wednesday, the principal sent another email explaining that students will have the choice to wear blue or white.

Students have until December 8 to fill out a form to change their order if they’d like to wear white.

Students will still be walking out and sitting in alphabetical order, which is new this year. In the past, boys and girls were seated separately.
