Local firefighters head to Ventura County to assist with Thomas Fire firefight

More than 100 local firefighters have been sent to Ventura County to help fight the fast-moving Thomas Fire.

The fire broke out Monday evening in Santa Paula and had burned at least 45,500 acres, destroyed an estimated 150 structures and was 0 percent contained by Tuesday morning. 

There are reportedly more than 1,000 firefighters assisting with the firefight. 

CAL FIRE SLO reports 125 of those are from various agencies in San Luis Obispo County. SLO County agencies also also sent 15 engines and two bulldozers. 

Crews from Santa Barbara County are also there, including firefighters from the City of Lompoc.

One air tanker from the Paso Robles air tanker base was reportedly at the fire after being grounded briefly Tuesday morning by winds. Winds were also reportedly affecting air tankers out of the Santa Maria air tanker base as well.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
