Santa Barbara City College closes campus due to impacts of Thomas Fire

Posted: Updated:

Santa Barbara City College closed its campus Tuesday morning due to the Thomas Fire burning in nearby Ventura County.

While officials said there was no immediate danger to the school, they decided to cancel activities as of 10:15 a.m. and told students and those on campus to "evacuate in an orderly and timely fashion."

They cited rolling power outages and air quality and visibility issues as reasons for the closure, which also affected the Wake, Schott and Cosmetology campuses.

Officials says a plan will be put into place to accommodate classes affected by Tuesday's closure.

A message about Tuesday's closure of the SBCC campus was visible on the college's website Tuesday.
