Posted: Updated:

A vegetation fire broke out Tuesday afternoon north of Los Alamos.

According to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, the fire was first reported at about 12:09 p.m. along the 6500 block of Cat Canyon Road near Palmer Road and was estimated to be about 10 acres in size when crews arrived.

While the flames were said to be mainly be surrounded by service roads, the wind-driven fire did jump into heavier fuels, according to fire officials, who said despite that, they were hoping to keep the fire contained to that area.

County firefighters are on scene along with a helicopter, air tanker, dozers and a hand crew.

An investigator was en route to work to determine the cause of the fire.
