The United Way of Ventura County has set up a relief fund for the victims of the Thomas Fire.

Organizers say all donations will go directly to those who have lost homes and need assistance recovering from the destructive wildfire burning in Ventura County.

The Thomas Fire has destroyed 150 structures, the majority of which were homes. A multi-level apartment building was also lost in the fire.

The United Way is partnering with the American Red Cross of Ventura County, Ventura County Sheriff's Office, and Ventura County Office of Emergency Services to help the community.

On the online donation page organizers write: "the estimated 600 people who are being temporarily housed at the fairgrounds will need our support and resource."

The Ventura County Fairgrounds one of several shelters set up for evacuees.

Donations can also be made by texting "UWVC" to 4144.

The Salvation Army Ventura Corps is also assisting fire victims and taking donations of food and snacks as they work to help the evacuees.

If you are interested in helping the animals affected by the fire, the Humane Society of Ventura County is taking financial donations that can be made through its website. They estimate they have roughly 300 animals in their care.
