Atascadero plans to finalize designs for some roads scheduled to be reconstructed during Tuesday's city council meeting.

3.2 miles of roadway on San Benito Road, Nogales Avenue, Rosario Avenue, Capistrano Avenue and Tunitas Avenue will be rebuilt.

In 2014, voters approved a half-cent sales tax initiative to collect $2.2 million in revenue every year for the next 12 years. The money goes to fund continuing road projects.

"One of those benefits is that there's not wear and tear on vehicles, it improves their property values, and so the longer we wait, the longer the roadway deteriorates, the more expensive it becomes to get that roadway back to good condition," said Nick DeBar, Director of Public Works for the City of Atascadero.

Construction on the latest phase is set to start next summer.
