Multiple schools in southern Santa Barbara County to close Friday because of Thomas Fire

UCSB joins a long list of local schools that have canceled class due to the Thomas Fire. 

The following Santa Barbara County public school districts will be closed Friday, Dec. 8 because of impacts from the Thomas Fire:

  • Carpinteria Unified School District
  • Cold Spring School District
  • Goleta Union School District
  • Hope Elementary School District
  • Montecito Union School District
  • Santa Barbara Unified School District
  • Vista del Mar Union School District

Smoke from the Thomas Fire, burning near the Ventura/Santa Barbara County line, is having a major impact on air quality in southern Santa Barbara County.

Cate School, Santa Barbara Middle School, and Laguna Blanca School have also announced they will be closed on Friday.

Classes at Westmont College are also canceled, but essential services, including the health center and dining commons, will remain open.

Santa Barbara City College will be closed through Saturday. All activities are canceled and students, staff and faculty are advised to not go to campus.

The College School District and Adelante Charter School will also be closed.
