25,000 face masks being distributed in southern SB County Friday

Posted: Updated:

Thousands of face masks will be distributed again in southern Santa Barbara County Friday due to air quality concerns prompted by the Thomas Fire.

According to Direct Relief, the organization passed out 47,000 N95 masks Thursday between Goleta and Carpinteria.

Another 25,000 are expected to be given out to those in need of them on Friday.

Distribution begins at 10:00 a.m. at the following four locations:

  • Goleta Costco, 7095 Market Place Drive
  • Franklin Neighborhood Center in Santa Barbara, 1136 E. Montecito St.
  • Carpinteria City Hall, 5775 Carpinteria Ave.
  • Albertsons in Carpinteria,1018 Casitas Pass Rd.

Beginning at 1:00 p.m., masks will be distributed in Montecito at the Lower Village, 1400 block of E. Valley Road.

Due to limited supplies, masks will be limited to two per person.

Air quality in much of Santa Barbara County was registering at unhealthy and hazardous levels Thursday.

Thursday, stores as far north as Santa Maria were running out of N95 masks, which are said to offer some protection from fine particles in smoke that ordinary or surgical masks do not offer.
