Bishop Diego prepares for CIF State Regional Championship against Quartz Hill

Posted: Updated:

The high school football season continues this weekend as Bishop Diego will take on Quartz Hill in the CIF Division 3-AA State Regional Championship down in Thousand Oaks.

The Cardinals are fresh off of winning the school's first-ever CIF Southern Section Division 6 title over Golden Valley, 37-6. Preparing for Quartz Hill this week has been a challenge for Bishop Diego due to the Thomas Fire and its poor air conditions. The team held their final practice of the week in their gymnasium.

No matter the circumstance, the Cardinals say they are ready to play on Saturday night.

"Yeah, you know, it's been a tough week," Bishop Diego head coach Tom Crawford said. "I know that there are a lot of displaced families to the south of us, and obviously, our thoughts are with them. You know as we say to the guys, at this stage it's a lot of mental reps that they're engaged in. We're very pleased with their focus, but it's a tough week."

"Due to the experience of the team, we have a lot of seniors first of all, and then being 15 weeks in, we've gotten our physical reps throughout the season," Bishop Diego senior John Harris added. "Now it's about putting everything together mentally and make it all happen."

Bishop Diego and Quartz Hill will kick off at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday at Cal Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks.
