Authorities will be handing out free N-95 face masks in Santa Barbara County on Sunday as the Thomas Fire continues to impact air quality.

N-95 masks are designed to protect people from microparticles floating in the air from wildfires. Normal surgical and hardware masks do not provide this same level of protection.

Masks will be distributed at the following locations:

  • Carpinteria Albertsons (10 a.m. - 4 p.m.)
  • Santa Barbara Public Library (1 - 5 p.m.)
  • Franklin Community Center in Santa Barbara (10 a.m. - 12 p.m.)
  • Goleta Costco (10 a.m. - 2 p.m.)

Santa Barbara Medical reserve Corps, the City of Carpinteria and Direct Relief International are coordinating the handout of the masks.
