Thomas Fire causing power outages, surges in Santa Barbara area

Posted: Updated:

Thousands of Southern California Edison customers in southern Santa Barbara County are experiencing intermittent outages and power surges Sunday due to the Thomas Fire.

According to SCE, as of 1:00 p.m. Sunday, up to 85,000 customers were said to be affected with another 3,500 impacted in the Ventura area.

SCE says the issues are with the transmission lines for the Santa Barbara area, but other parts of its transmission system is not being affected.

Officials ask people experiencing power outages in the Santa Barbara area Sunday to not call SCE to report it so that phone lines can remain open for other emergencies.

SCE customers in the area are being asked to reduce their power consumption, where possible, at this time.
