Westmont College in Santa Barbara is closed for the semester because of the Thomas Fire.

The campus was placed under an evacuation order Sunday evening and is now being used as an operational headquarters for the firefighters who are battling the fire.

School officials say all services have been discontinued and all faculty, staff and students have left. Professors are reportedly working directly with students to hold finals off campus.

Students who need housing this week are advised to contact Thomas Staffileno at tstaffileno@westmont.edu. Some faculty and staff members have reportedly offered to host students during this time.

School officials say students will not be allowed to return to their rooms until the evacuation order is lifted.

For now, the upcoming women's basketball game remains scheduled for Dec. 20.

Westmont is no stranger to wildfires. In 2008, the Tea Fire destroyed eight campus buildings and 15 faculty homes.

Meanwhile, UC Santa Barbara has rescheduled its fall quarter final exams for the week of January 8. Winter quarter will now begin Tuesday, Jan. 16 and be reduced by one week.

University officials say the revised final exam schedule will be posted on the Office of the Registrar's website on Tuesday, Dec. 12.

The UCSB campus will remain open as originally scheduled but students and staff can leave now for the holiday break.
