UPDATE: Firefighter who died while fighting Thomas Fire identified

UPDATE (4:15 a.m.) - More than $30,000 dollars has been raised overnight for the family of CAL FIRE Engineer Cory Iverson who died on the line of the Thomas Fire Thursday. 

A GoFundMe Page was set up Thursday night by a close friend of Iverson's wife Ashley. 

Many firefighters and first responders are wearing a black band over their badges in honor of Iverson. 

Flags at fire stations and some public agencies are flying at half-staff. 

Firefighters lowered the flag at the Santa Barbara Polo Club Thursday where crews have been staging and paid their respects to Iverson. 

Gov. Jerry Brown announced all Capitol flags will be lowered. 

UPDATE (7:00 p.m.) - Fire officials say a Serious Accident  Review Team has been assigned to investigate the death of firefighter Cory Iverson. The 32-year-old CAL FIRE Engineer from San Diego died Thursday while fighting the Thomas Fire in an area north of the town of Fillmore. That area reportedly experienced a significant increase in fire behavior on Thursday.

According to CAL FIRE, Iverson was part of a five-engine strike team made up of 17 people who arrived at the fire last week. They had most recently been assigned to the fires in Northern California.

The other members of his team have been pulled off the fire. They are expected to return to San Diego and reunite with their families.

UPDATE (4:25 p.m.) - CAL FIRE says 32-year-old Cory Iverson, who was part of a fire engine strike team out of San Diego, died Thursday at the Thomas Fire.

Iverson had been with CAL FIRE since 2009.

He is survived by his wife and two-year-old daughter. The couple also has another daughter on the way.

UPDATE (3:45 p.m.) - The firefighter who died while battling the Thomas Fire on Thursday has been identified at CAL FIRE San Diego Engineer Cory Iverson.

A firefighter has died while fighting the Thomas Fire, CAL FIRE Chief Ken Pimlott announced on Thursday.

The firefighter was a CAL FIRE Engineer from San Diego. 

No details on the circumstances surrounding his death or his name have been released at this time.

His family has reportedly been notified and is receiving support from IMT 4, CAL FIRE Local 2881 and Southern Region leadership.
