More smoke expected in Montecito & Carpinteria area Thursday afternoon

Posted: Updated:

Those in the Carpinteria and Montecito areas can expect to see more smoke over the next several hours.

Los Padres National Forest is doing a firing operation near the water treatment plant as part of the Thomas Fire firefighting efforts.

Fire officials say this firing operation was already in place and planned prior to Wednesday's announcement of the PACE plan, described by fire officials during a town hall meeting.

That plan is outlined below:

  • Plan A is to hold the fire where it's at.
  • Plan B is to let the fire move slowly with fire crews controlling the bottom edge.
  • Plan C is a large scale firing operation.
  • The final plan is using all 400 engines on structure defense and a firing operation along Highway 154 and through Windy Gap.

Thursday afternoon's firing operations are expected to last several hours.
