Santa Barbara Zoo closed on Saturday, in voluntary evacuation zone

Update (11:40 a.m.) - The Santa Barbara Zoo is now in the voluntary evacuation zone. 

The zoo says some animals are going into crates and are being staged for possible evacuation to predetermined locations. Staff has training and transportation. They say they do not need public assistance.


We are learning Santa Barbara Zoo decided to close on Saturday due to the changing fire conditions and smoke from the Thomas Fire. 

The zoo tweeted this Saturday morning:
