Thomas Fire evacuation warnings, orders

Update (2:50 p.m.) - Residents are now being allowed to re-enter some areas near Carpinteria.  Evacuation orders have been lifted in the following areas:

  • North of SR 192 (Foothill Road) to the southern boundary of the Los Padres National Forest in between Cravens Lane and Casitas Pass Road.  The evacuation order remains in place inside the Los Padres National Forest.
  • North of SR 192 (Foothill Road) to East Camino Cielo in between Casitas Pass Road and the Santa Barbara/Ventura County Line.
  • North of Highway 101 and south of SR 192 (Foothill Road) in between Craves Lane and Casitas Pass Road.

ORIGINAL: As thousands of firefighters work to gain control of the Thomas Fire, which has destroyed thousands of structures in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties, many Santa Barbara-area residents remain under evacuation. 

By Saturday evening, there were reportedly 16,000 Santa Barbara County residents under mandatory evacuations. 

An evacuation shelter has been set up at UCSB for those in need of a place to go. 

Mandatory evacuations include:

  • All areas east of Highway 154, south of East Camino Cielo, west of Toro Canyon and north of Highway 101 at Toro Canyon to South Salinas then north of Alameda Padre Serra and to Highway 192 west to 154.
  • The area east of Toro Canyon to Casitas Pass Road north of Highway 192 and south of East Camino Cielo.

The areas under voluntary evacuation include:

  • Painted Cave community north of Highway 154 and south of East Camino Cielo along Painted Cave Road.
  • East of and including North San Marcos Road to Highway 154, north of Cathedral Oaks and south of the intersection of Highway 154 and N. San Marcos Road (near top of San Marcos Pass).
  • South of Highway 192, west of N. San Marcos Road, north of State Street, and east of Nomad Village/San Vicente Mobile Home Park, including La Cumbre Road and Hope Avenue south of State Street to Highway 101.
  • East of Mission Street/Los Olivos, north of Highway 101 and south of Salinas/Alameda Padre Serra.
  • In the Montecito area, south of 101 to the ocean and east of the Zoo/Ninos Drive to Eucalyptus Lane.

An evacuation order was lifted Sunday morning for Highway 150 between Santa Ana and Highway 192 in Ventura County.
