Salvation Army distributes donated toys to families in need

Posted: Updated:

Santa Claus came early for some parents in Arroyo Grande Thursday thanks to some help from the Salvation Army.

Parents lined up out the door eager for their turn to shop through a free holiday toy shop.

About 750 children will receive toys donated by Toys for Tots and other local donors.

"We have an extremely generous community," said program coordinator Jose Guardiola. "Our volunteers are the best in the world as far as I'm concerned. We get a lot of donations and we have a lot of toys... and I just like the idea of knowing that we're helping these families have a better Christmas."

Some big-ticket items included wireless headphones and virtual reality goggles.
