Posted: Updated:

Fire officials are investigating what caused an apartment in Paso Robles to catch fire Wednesday evening.

Firefighters were dispatched to the one-story duplex on the 1400 block of Vine Street just after 6:20 p.m.

When crews got there, smoke and flames were reported billowing from one unit of the duplex.

Over a dozen firefighters knocked down the flames in about 20 minutes.

While fighting the flames, firefighters rescued a cat from the smoke-filled building.

Crews were able to resuscitated the cat on scene. It was taken to Atascadero Pet Hospital and is said to be in good condition.

No one was home when the fire broke out.

Officials say no one was hurt.
