Cal Poly float wins award at Rose Parade

Posted: Updated:

Update (11:15 a.m.) - Cal Poly's float, “Dreams Take Flight,” received the Past Presidents Trophy for most outstanding innovation in the use of floral and non-floral materials at the Rose Parade Monday.

The float was among 40-plus floats in this year's parade, and the concept was chosen from more than 100 ideas submitted, according to a release from the university.

The Cal Poly float is ready for its big moment during the 129th Tournament of Roses Parade.

The float is slated to be the 33rd entry in the parade lineup.

Cal Poly expects the float will appear during the first hour of the parade, which starts at 8:00 a.m.

Students from both Cal Poly campuses in San Luis Obispo and Pomoma created the float with the theme "Dreams Take Flight."

The float has characters flying through the air on hydraulic lifts and took hundreds of hours to volunteers to complete.

It is the 70th float created by Cal Poly students.

Watch the Rose Parade on KSBY at 8:00 a.m.
