Police investigate early morning murder in downtown Santa Barbara

UPDATE (12:45 p.m.) - Santa Barbara Police say both victims in the early morning shooting that injured one and kill another were males.  

Police say the men were at a house party on the 200 block of Victoria street when the shooting occurred.  One male was shot and injured inside of the house while the other male was shot outside at the intersection of Victoria and De La Vina, according to police. 

The identities of the victims have not been released.  Investigators are currently conducting witness interviews and are looking for more information on the suspected shooter.

Neighbors say it's a quiet area and are shocked to see crime tape up.  Officials told KSBY News the last shooting in the area happened along De La Vina about 3 years ago and was officer involved. 

UPDATE (8:45 a.m.) - One city block in downtown Santa Barbara will be shut down for much of New Year's Day as police investigate an early morning shooting that killed one and injured another. 

Police say the person found dead was a young man, possibly in his early 20s. 

His name will be released after officers inform next of kin.

The surviving victim is also a man in his early 20s. His name has not been released. 

De La Vina Street is currently closed from Sola to Victoria streets. 

Authorities say detectives and officers will likely keep that area blocked off until early Monday afternoon as they continue their investigation. 

Santa Barbara police are investigating a New Year's Day murder in downtown Santa Barbara.

Officers were dispatched to the 200 block of West Victoria Street at about 3:30 a.m. Monday. 

Gunshots were reportedly heard in the neighborhood near the intersection of Victoria and De La Vina streets. 

Officers found two people with gunshot wounds. 

One victim was discovered dead in the the street on the 1300 block of De La Vina Street. 

The second victim was standing on the sidewalk of West Victoria Street on the 200 block, according to police. 

Authorities say the surviving victim is now at Cottage Hospital undergoing treatment. 

Police have not made any arrests and have not released any information about possible suspects. 

De La Vina Street is closed from Sola to Victoria streets.
