Early Warning System to be tested this week in SLO County

Posted: Updated:

San Luis Obispo County's Early Warning System will be tested once again this week.

The low-volume siren growl tests will take place Tuesday and Wednesday for a few seconds at each location.

The sirens are part of the county's early warning system to alert residents in the event of a tsunami or dam failure, as well as emergencies at the Diablo Canyon power plant.

They cover an area from Cayucos to the Nipomo Mesa area.

The county conducts quarterly growl tests each year.

County officials have not released what time the sirens will go off each day, but residents do not need to do anything if and when they hear the noise.
