Repaving work to cause delays this month near Lompoc's La Purisima Mission

Posted: Updated:

Work to repave a section of Purisima Road near Lompoc's La Purisima Mission is scheduled to resume Tuesday.

The project between Mission Gate Road and Rucker Road began December 18, but no work was done between December 23 and January 1.

Drivers are being encouraged to use alternate routes as 15-minute delays are expected during the work.

According to Santa Barbara County Public Works, construction crews are working to grind off the surface of the old pavement before adding new pavement and a second layer of asphalt.

Officials say that will help provide "structural strength and longevity" to the road.

The approximately $425,000 project is being funded by Santa Barbara County's general fund and is scheduled to be completed by the end of the month.
