Man arrested on suspicion of burglarizing Santa Barbara businesses

Posted: Updated:

Santa Barbara police arrested a man early Tuesday morning on suspicion of burglarizing several businesses.

While responding to an alarm call at Dargan's Irish Pub, officers detained 43-year-old Brian Christopher Schotz as he was reportedly trying to leave the area. Police say he was already on probation for a prior burglary and matched the description of a suspect seen in surveillance video breaking into another business earlier in the morning.

Police say Schotz was found to be in possession of a large amount of cash, gloves and methamphetamine, and in some nearby bushes, officers reportedly found a crowbar resembling one seen being carried by the suspect in the security video.

Investigators say the break-in at Dargan's was one of three burglaries that morning. Oreana Winery and Test Pilot Tiki Bar were also reportedly burglarized, though nothing was taken from Oreana.

Schotz was booked into County Jail on burglary charges.

Police say two empty cash register drawers are still missing from the burglaries at Test Pilot and Dargan's. Anyone who locates them is asked to call Santa Barbara Police Det. Thompson at (805) 897-2325.
